NOVEL OF THE MONTH
The Sparsholt Affair by Alan Hollinghurst
We don’t usually reach for superlatives here at Dulwich Books, but Hollinghurst is truly the leading light of his generation. Not only is he extraordinary on the page, each sentence honed with the scrupulousness of Henry James or Flaubert, but he is also exceptional in person. Hollinghurst is a writer who demands our attention, showing rather than telling, and he has created a story about repression, art, family and love which befits its epic scope. It is a privilege to read this novel, and will be even more so to hear him in conversation with the BBC Arts correspondent Razia Iqbal.
